Website Overview

Welcome to BorealBuzz.com, a website designed for the Sustainable Forest Management Advisory Committee for Tembec, Pine Falls based on the two topics of the upcoming meeting: Road Access Issues and Non Timber Forest Products. These are topics that were raised at the previous meeting on High Conservation Value Areas.

The information presented is intended to inform, engage, and encourage reflection. It may even create a stir. Or at least remind you of something you wanted to bring up at an advisory committee meeting.

You are looking at Version 2 of BorealBuzz.com. Based on your feedback, there are new features to this version such as an andio recording to help you navigate the site, more pictures, and fun quizes. This website is yours to use as you prepare for your upcoming meeting.

 

To help you prepare for the September meeting, here are two sections for your review:

• Road access tour This section includes some background information on the effects and impacts of roads and road management, as well as information about road access issues, which may be relevant to your upcoming meeting. There is an interview with Vince Keenan, maps, photos, and more...

• Non-timber forest products article is meant to give you background information in preparation for your upcoming meeting. There are also resources where you can aquire more information.

There are also additional information resources in the following sections:

 

• Sustainable Forest Management Resources is a collection of reports and website sources for more information about sustainable management of the boreal forest, from all sector perspectives.

 

• High Conservation Value Areas tour is the first version of BorealBuzz, in its entirety. Some maps have been removed to increase storage space for the other tours.

Other features you will find on the site include-

• Photo gallery includes photos of roads, river crossings and gates and road decommissioning.

 

• Maps of the road management plans of Happy Lake, Beaver Creek, Okimaw Lake and Rainy Lake; road access points in FML01; and harvest disturbance history.

• Survey to provide feedback about this website and it's usefullness.

 

• Message board is a way to communicate thoughts with others viewing the webiste.

BorealBuzz.com is a graduate student project with the University of Manitoba, funded by the Sustainable Forest Management Network. The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of web-tools to enhance dialogue at advisory committee meetings.
